I sometimes get down about the dangers and horrors of our world. If you’re a civilized human being, then chances are it afflicts you too. It seems like there is always more crime, hate and tragedy to deal with. Sadly it’s a never-ending process that will exist as long as our species does. The nature of man is often ruthless and puzzling. Why do some individuals do the heinous things they do? Sure you can get a generalized scoop from a psych 101 class, but it probably varies from person to person. Take the sexual predator for example. What’s wrong with him/her? Was he abused at birth or did he acquire some sick fetish in his late teens? Or is it just innate? What if some folks are born this way?
If you watch television, and the odds are you do, then you’ve definitely been exposed to the notorious sexual predator at some point or another. This cliche deviant is often the antagonist of many contemporary television shows. I could probably name a dozen off the top of my head, but what’s the point? Instead, I’ll name one. “Criminal Minds.” This series focuses on the badest of the bad. It shows how FBI profilers catch the modern-day sexual predator, amongst other monsters. I totally admit that it’s often depressing, but I watch it anyway. I think many of us just want to be aware and attempt to understand the mind of our enemies. This is a way to prepare ourselves and learn. Will it stop the many sexual predators from striking again? Of course not. However, it may provide us with knowledge to protect our children or ourselves from their wrath.
I laugh at my father when he says things are much worse now. As we all have to know somewhere deep down, the sexual predator was just as prominent back in the day. Maybe it just wasn’t so publicized and scrutinized by our media. This after all is the age of knowledge. And we should take full advantage of this knowledge. Investigate the sexual predator websites, and see who resides near you. This is information available to anyone and everyone. Use it to give yourself the power over them. Don’t let a sexual predator into your life or near your family.
